It’s mum season!

It’s mum season, and these are flying out the door!  Here’s a few tips to keep your mums looking great til you’re ready for Christmas arrangements.

 

1. Purchase tight mums.  Mums that are in full bloom are peaking, and you won’t get to enjoy the fullest range of their beauty.

 

2. Once stems reach approximately 8” in length, pinch them off.  Use scissors or your fingers, but giving them a pinch will encourage more flowers.  

 

3. Mums that are planted in our gardens do prefer full sun.  But when you’re buying them in pots, give them some partial shade.  More sun will not help more flowers at this point.  

 

4. It may not seem as important, but water, water, water remains important to your mums (and all plants).  

 

5. Remember to deadhead your blooms once they’re finished.  They’ll repay you with even more flowers.
